ValuVet commenced consulting to the veterinary profession in Australia in1996. Now using mature and experienced veterinary professionals with extensive experience in veterinary practice operation together with a chartered accountant. We perform practice valuations and assessments and give consulting advice to the veterinary profession. Prior to 1996, accounting firms had been used almost exclusively to value practices; their lack of knowledge of veterinary operations restricted their ability. ValuVet's on-site assessment of clients, veterinary services, staff, protocols and procedures, locational and personal goodwill and practice equipment, provide a unique approach in Australia.
The founding director of ValuVet has previously owned several veterinary practices and had 20 years clinical veterinary experience in both large and small animals. He established, owned and operated a veterinary and medical manufacturing company, had extensive knowledge of the equipment industry and was a licensed dealer in veterinary equipment. The valuation of veterinary equipment as a going concern in practices consequently added value for vets buying and selling practices, whereas previously it was valued at depreciated tax value. Since a veterinary practice is frequently the highest valued investment of a practice principal, it is imperative to have an accurate assessment of the value for both purchaser and vendor.
In recent years ValuVet developed a system of practice reporting which has proved an asset and benefit to both buyers and sellers. The reports highlight areas where practice improvement or adjustment can result in higher profit for potential purchasers and higher goodwill value if prepared well in advance of a sale. In 10 years, over 400 practice assessments were performed, in every state of Australia. This has produced a large database of information which provides further insight into the market.
ValuVet has developed Vets Practice Market Place which maintains a database of vets interested in buying or selling practices. This adjunct to the consulting service fills a need of the profession, helping to find a right fit between buyers and sellers. While Vets' Practice Market Place does assist sales, it does not operate as a broker, preferring to provide a service to the profession by guiding buyers and sellers into a smooth transition. It was not involved in negotiations but offered unbiased advice when requested to assist both parties. In all areas of practice consulting, ValuVet and VPMP have a strong emphasis on confidentiality, preferring to release information only to persons who have signed confidentiality agreements (that includes buyers and sellers).
With time and experience, one gets to know what works and what does not and ValuVet has proved very successful at improving value of practices by looking at software data and key performance indicators to guide principals and managers to maximise their practice performance.
The practical approach by ValuVet has not only made it more aware of the veterinary market, it has put the company in a position as the market leader in providing professional advice, in valuing, buying and selling large and small animal, urban and rural practices in Australia.
Our three veterinary consultants have a passion for the profession and have over 160 years combined experience in the veterinary business field. ValuVet has always operated on the premise that fairness and integrity are essential to any business operation and there is no substitute for either. For this reason ValuVet refuses to perform a valuation without a practice visit.
